Every now and again one of those records comes around that defies being pigeon holed and given a label. Mason burst onto the dance scene with their groundbreaking tune ‘Exceeder’ back in 2006. The record swiftly went from destroying dance floors to tearing it up the World’s charts and laying the foundations for more forward thinking music. This record, along with most of what Mason produced since falls into the same category. It’s not about making records for a particular set of Djs or scene but just good honest music!
As a result Mason’s tunes are played by a huge array of decksman from Pete Tong and Zane Lowe (BBC Radio 1) to Fat Boy Slim, Eric Prydz and Carl Cox. 2009 is set to be a big one for Mason both as a production team and as a DJ. If sheer talent and karma have anything to do with it then expect to be hearing this name a lot in the future.
Mason is the stage name of the Dutch music producer duo Iason Chronis and Coen Berrier. They had a number one on the UK Dance Chart in 2007 with their track Exceeder. Exceeder had originally been an instrumental and had received a vinyl only release in the UK in 2006. The new version of the track, Perfect (Exceeder) featured vocals from Princess Superstar and reached number 3 on the national British chart in January 2007. The number was a big hit in The Netherlands as well. Mason has been very popular with Ministry of Sound featuring on many of their annual compilations.
Other bootlegs of Exceeder, such as Hollaback Exceeder (a mashup with Gwen Stefani’s Hollaback Girl) exist.
Mason has released music on numerous electro and techno labels, such as Great Stuff Recordings, and Pickadoll Music, and remixed artists such as Moby, Robyn and Gabriella Cilmi. In 2008 they launched their own label ‘Animal Language’.
