An interview with dj duo from UK, The Squatters, talking and sharing their brand club night “Sessions” in Leeds.
What made you decide to introduce Sessions to Leeds?
Simply because everyone loves a good road trip out of their home town, and also a lot of friends and fans were asking us to throw a party in Leeds so how could we say no?
How will Sessions stand out from the other nights in town?
This lineup has never been put together before so it is completely unique for this night that is one reason why it will stand out. It is also the first time that the Dirty Smart Clothing brand are a big part of making sure that the party lives up to its name. This is also the first ever event we’ve hosted as The Squatters in Leeds.
You’re doing a Live PA with Steve Edwards; tell us how that came about and what we can expect from it?
We have always wanted to work with the House legend Steve Edwards and this will be first time that the live P.A has been done, which makes it even more exciting!
Kissy Sell Out is joining you two, you’ve recently produced a track with him and played alongside him before, was he an obvious pick to start this new venture off with?
Kissy needs no introduction, the guy is a no brainer booking and a great friend who we recently produced a track called “Early Morning Crew” with. As a DJ, producer and top geezer he was an obvious booking!
Leeds is a massive student city and you guys have just become teachers with Sonic Academy, helping budding producers get the head around making a track. Tell us more about that…
Yeah, joining Sonic Academy was something that came naturally to us from our passion of music and producing and us being able to pass down the secrets, tips and tricks we have developed through our own education or just trial and error, is a great opportunity.
Sum up a Sessions night in three words…
When’s next one?
Will you be buying each other an Easter Egg?
Jesus and chocolate don’t mix.
What things do The Squatters have planned for 2013?
Have more fun and make more music than 2012, but mainly try to focus on the things we are doing especially a few collaborations we’ve got lined up and one event with the legendary Judge Jules!
You’ve got a podcast haven’t you? Let us know how to get that and what to expect?
Well, the podcast is called “The Squatters Monthly Mix” and it’s our way of expressing what we do and what we are about. This year we have started to put the stories in from The Squatters.
Adventures and some of our northern twisted personal humour ;P Also featuring our new tracks, tracks from the producers circle and guest mixes. Best of all it is FREE to download from iTunes! Download here – https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-squatters-monthly-mix/id464576004
And finally, anything else we need to know about 28th March at Mission in Leeds?
As this is the first Sessions The Squatters have presented in Leeds for 5 years, we are taking the event seriously. We have employed people to make sure everything is going to run smoothly while we put our efforts into performing our set and mixing with the fans, to party properly with the people who made the effort to come and live it like it’s the last night on earth!
And also how many bank holiday Thursdays are there in a year? How many others offer you this under one arched roof?
