Ahmad Iylia Ya’acob aka E.Y. was crowned Hard Rock Cafe Kuala Lumpur’s first-ever BARocker after a four-way battle. He will represent the Kuala Lumpur in Sentosa, Singapore, to vie for the regional BARocker championship. The Hard Rock BARocker is a global competition in search for the best Hard Rock bartender in the world.
E.Y. competed against three other bartenders in the local round, where their bartending skills were judged based on four key components, including recipe knowledge, pour-testing, accuracy and showmanship. Industry experts Rizal Junior Johari, Joe Michael, Osamu Kinugawa from Japan, and TV host personality Jonathan Putra were the judges for the competition.
“Winning the local round has given me the much needed confidence to compete for regionals. Having been a bartender at Hard Rock Cafe Kuala Lumpur for 2 years has truly been an eye-opener for me. Undergoing training and observing the customer culture we have here in Malaysia has increased my knowledge on understanding customers’ needs, and at the same time, satisfy those requirements,” said E.Y.
The regional championships in Singapore will see E.Y. compete against BARockers from other cities in the Southeast Asia region. The regional champion will go on to Orlando, Florida, for Hard Rock’s annual global Conference in January 2014 for the finals, where they will compete for the Global “Hard Rock BARocker Champion” title.

The grand prize winner will receive an all-expense-paid trip for two to one of Hard Rock’s beautiful, all-inclusive resort properties of their choice, and also have their winning drink featured on Hard Rock’s beverage menu for a limited time.
