Zouk Club Kuala Lumpur welcomes the news of Genting Hong Kong, a leading global leisure, entertainment and hospitality enterprise, that has entered into an agreement to acquire iconic Zouk Club Singapore.
Under the terms of the agreement, Genting Hong Kong will acquire Zouk’s major trademarks along with the new Zouk Club in Clarke Quay, Singapore, scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2016. Genting Hong Kong will also continue to operate the annual ZoukOut dance music festival with the next event in December 2015.
The terms of the agreement excludes Zouk Club Kuala Lumpur [KL] nightspot located at lifestyle precinct TREC along Jalan Tun Razak.
As a prelude to this milestone event, Beatship, Genting Hong Kong’s beach club cruise concept on board Star Cruises, is collaborating with Zouk Club KL and bring the party on shore with an all new DJ event in Kuala Lumpur on October 23 at the indoor arena KL Live.
Headlined by top ranking DJs including Grammy nominated Paul van Dyk, Andrew Rayel and Aly & Fila, the event marks the beginning of many more exciting events in the region with the legendary Zouk brand now part of the Genting Hong Kong family.
Zouk Club KL’s co-founder Cher Ng. He says: “The Zouk Club KL team and its Board welcome the news of Genting Hong Kong. We are looking forward to working with Genting Hong Kong on Zouk Club KL’s first collaborative event on October 23, and more to come.”
BRAND EXPANSION
Under Genting Hong Kong, the Zouk brand will expand its footprint, extending its presence across the region.
Zouk’s Brand Founder as well as Zouk Club KL’s co-founder Lincoln Cheng, who opened the Moorish designed Zouk Singapore in 1991, will hand over the reigns of Zouk Singapore. He will remain as the Non-Executive Chairman of Zouk Club KL.
Cheng says: “Zouk, a world-class brand, has all along had held ambition to expand beyond Singapore and Malaysia. Genting Hong Kong will take the Zouk brand further and to greater heights together with the existing Zouk Singapore team, mapping its footprint out of Singapore and Malaysia, and into the future.”
Andrew Li, Vice President, Lifestyle and F&B Concepts, Genting Hong Kong, says: “Zouk is a brilliant example of a local Singapore brand that has not only achieved worldwide status and recognition in the global club scene, but has truly evolved into a subculture of its own for generations of trendsetters in Asia.
“As Genting Hong Kong continues to expand its reach in attracting a younger and more lifestyle driven clientele, we are confident that the addition of such an iconic institution will further complement and enhance the company’s overall brands and offerings across the region.”
Cheng notes that both Zouk clubs in Singapore and Malaysia will continue to shine in their respective territories. With Zouk Singapore set for expansion, the new Zouk Club KL has set the benchmark for entertainment in the Malaysian capital city.
Following Zouk Club KL’s recent relocation to its new home at TREC, the 24-year-old Zouk Club Singapore will relocate from Jiak Kim Street to entertainment precinct Clarke Quay in the third quarter of 2016.
