Kuala Lumpur, 29 March 2014 – JOHNNIE WALKER® invited Malaysians to STEP INSIDE THE CIRCUIT LOUNGE over the race weekend at an exclusive event that brought to life the JOHNNIE WALKER® ethos of personal progress.
The prestigious event was set in the heart of the city, transforming Starstage at Kenanga Wholesale City into a multi-level black and gold feature exuding glamour and luxury in each tier. Among the list of personalities and industry leaders present were Dutch footballer George Boateng, travel host Henry Golding, CEO of Chatime Bryan Loo, Benjamin Yong of the BIG Group and actress Debbie Goh – all of whom were dressed in glamorous black and gold in honour of JOHNNIE WALKER®. Some of the Mercedes McLaren team, alongside other members of the F1 community, were also amongst the distinguished guests in the JOHNNIE WALKER® Striding Lounge to enjoy evening’s celebrations.
Guests were treated to an exquisite selection of cocktails specially crafted by Keep Walking Ambassadors Shawn Chong and Karl Too. Bringing out the big, bold flavours of the JOHNNIE WALKER® Deluxe variants whilst flaunting their individual mixing styles, Shawn and Karl introduced two new signature cocktails to the JOHNNIE WALKER® CIRCUIT LOUNGE menu – the luscious JOHNNIE WALKER® Gold Coco created by Shawn and the citrusy JOHNNIE WALKER® Black Strike by Karl. Also on the menu was the JOHNNIE WALKER® Black Coconut, delivering a tropical take on the bold flavours of JOHNNIE WALKER® BLACK LABEL™.
In-line with the celebration of personal progress, Keep Walking Ambassador and fashion designer Harvee Kok presented his award-winning collection, Bipolarity – a stylishly avant-garde, intricate six-piece line that won Harvee the Harper’s Bazaar Asia New Generation Fashion Designer Award last year. The fashion show was followed by an exciting dance performance featuring dancers clad in sophisticated shimmering black dresses, choreographed specially for CIRCUIT LOUNGE by Cecilia Yong, winner of So You Think You Can Dance Malaysia.
Acclaiming the progress of the Malaysian dance music scene, the evening saw a showcase of the best local talents as DJs both up-and-coming and well-established graced the stage. DJ Lish, set the mood with her Nu-Disco remixes, followed by DJ XU of well-known KL stalwarts, LapSap. Internationally-established DJ Jungle Jerry kept the party going with his high-energy remixes, followed by local veterans Jakeman & Skeletor who brought the night to an explosive close.
Prior to the event, McLaren Mercedes driver and 2009 Formula 1™ World Champion Jenson Button rewarded five lucky Malaysians with exclusive invites to the JOHNNIE WALKER® CIRCUIT LOUNGE as part of the recognition and celebration of achievements made by Malaysians. Over the few weeks leading up to CIRCUIT LOUNGE, fans of the brand were encouraged to share their thoughts and stories of inspiration on the JOHNNIE WALKER® Malaysia Facebook page, following the personal stories of progress from the Keep Walking Ambassadors: Shawn Chong and Karl Too of speakeasy bar Omakase+Appreciate, filmmaker Quek Shio Chuan, fashion designer Harvee Kok and Chef Nigel Richter.
As part of the global responsible drinking initiative – Join the Pact – JOHNNIE WALKER® and UBER collaborated in providing free rides to and from the CIRCUIT LOUNGE event, actively promoting the message to Never Drink and Drive. In conjunction with this partnership, two-time Formula 1™ World Champion and JOHNNIE WALKER® Global Responsible Drinking Ambassador, Mika Häkkinen, chauffeured one lucky guest, Joel Neoh of Groupon Asia Pacific, to the JOHNNIE WALKER® CIRCUIT LOUNGE event. The Ultimate Chauffeur experience also served as a kick-off to the GETTING THE WORLD HOME SAFELY campaign – an effort to create a global movement to provide one million kilometers of safe rides home worldwide. Guests were thrilled to meet the legend himself as Häkkinen mingled with the guests in the Striding Lounge.
