Following on from its successful 2012 showcases in London, Delhi, Jakarta, Singapore and Mexico City, STYLO, the country’s biggest fashion event held a signing ceremony today with key sponsors in the run-up to the15th Petronas Malaysia F1 Grand Prix celebrations.
Running from the 17th to the 23rd of March 2013, the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Fashion Grand Prix 2013 will be themed “The Mannequin Fantasies”.
Leading the signing ceremony for the 7-day festival was its Presenter, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia represented by its President & CEO Roland Folger .
“In Malaysia, Mercedes-Benz celebrates the 10th anniversary of the company’s incorporation this year. Since incorporation we have been committed to the promotion of haute couture and through the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Fashion Grand Prix we have helped elevate the Malaysian fashion industry internationally”, said Folger. “The way forward for us is to evolve and stay agile on our feet in order to exceed the expectations of our discerning enthusiasts. Our focus is on the future, to mark the second decade”.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia launched the World Fashion Exchange with STYLO during its 125th Anniversary 2 years ago, which resulted in the winners of the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Designer, Emerging Designer and Emerging Model of the Year earning a showcase at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Mexico City last November.
For the 4th year running, the highly successful Mercedes-Benz STYLO Emerging Designers’ Competition will return with 12 finalists from various fashion institutions where the winner will win a similar slot at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Prague this September “Our Malaysian fashion scene has been really fortunate to have had Mercedes-Benz’s support in pushing us into fashion’s international forefront”, said Datuk Nancy Yeoh, President & CEO of STYLO
International. “We are hopeful indeed with the possibility of global fashion expansion in our partnership with them and in their continued commitment to fashion on a worldwide level”.
She further added that Mercedes-Benz Malaysia who has been STYLO’s Presenter since the latter’s inception will be co-presenting its B2B debut, The Asia Fashion Week (AFW) and The Rainforest Fashion Initiative (RFI) later this year. The inaugural event will be held in Kuala Lumpur and in the Sarawakian rainforests which will see fashion participation from over 15 Asian countries including heavyweights such as China, India, Japan and South Korea.
In support of this world fashion exchange, Mercedes-Benz Czech Republic will be showcasing the work of one of the most promising emerging designers from Prague at the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Fashion awards evening and at the Mercedes-Benz Petronas team party celebrations.
STYLO will also present its first-ever public showcase at the Petronas Twin Towers. Launched in 2007 the now London-based STYLO Worldwide will fly in a 6-member circus-based performing arts contingent from London for this customised public showcase. Aerialist, stilt walkers, fire-eater, unicyclist, hoop dancer and electro grinders will be merged with Asian performing artistes and will be directed by famed choregrapher Pat Ibrahim with fashion direction by Georgetown Arts Festival chief, Joe Sidek.
Also present at the signing ceremony was Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia represented by its Managing Director Soren Ravn. Kronenbourg 1664 as the Official Beverage of STYLO 2013 will be presenting a tongue-in-cheek fashion showcase entitled ‘Not Les Miserables..’ under its banner of L’Aperitif Fashion.
Visa is the Official Card of Mercedes-Benz STYLO FGP 2013. Present at the signing ceremony was Stuart Tomlinson, Visa Country Manager, Malaysia. Visa will be presenting STYLO’s Men’s Fashion Showcase entitled “Men Have No Secrets”.
Unlike previous years where the actual locations of the STYLO events remain a mystery till event day, STYLO 2013’s venue will instead be an open secret.
