A week has past after XNation toured Penang. Our trip there are amazing while enjoying the beautiful view of Georgetown. It took at least more than 4 hours to reach our destination not including the time finding around for our hotel. While not able to find our way to Penang second bridge, we have to cross using the old bridge.
We checked-in late at around 3pm++ at Armenian Street Heritage Hotel located at Lebuh Carnarvon in Georgetown. Not bad at all, clean, neat and with such a nice accommodation right in Georgetown. It might be hard to find parking though as the hotel’s parking are small, located at back lane of the hotel, otherwise you can park right beside the hotel. You’re lucky if able to find one there.
We rest for awhile at the hotel before heading out to meet up with The Press club manager. We are not quite manage to find the location of Patio Bar de tapas but thanks to GPS we reached the bar and restaurant in no time. Patio Bar is a perfect place for dining and chilling out if you want to skip the banging dance music. You’ll be enjoying groovy house music all day and night long.
After visiting the bar, we proceed to our main venue at The Press which is just a walking distance from Patio Bar de tapas. After the sound check, we headed back to our hotel to get prepare for the night. If you haven’t been to Patio Bar de tapas, you should go check out if you’re in Georgetown, not hard to find as it is just by the roadside along Weld Quay.
Our night life in Penang starts at 9pm, the Xnation headed back to Patio Bar de tapas for dinner, we are served with delicious foods while enjoying ice cold japanese Kirin beer. We had the delicious pork rib and other mouth watering foods. Well, thanks to Fadlin for all the great foods!
Well, Kirin beer does taste a lot different than any other beers. After our dinner we headed straight to The Press for our event. Our night ended at 2.30am and we called it a night. Too bad 90% of the photos taken on our camera are blur.
The Press est. 1936 Penang is located at Gat Lebuh Chulia in Georgetown where you can listen to house music and club banging EDM. It is also one great place for beer and watching football matches during this World Cup season. If you’re not able to handle the noise of loud music, you can just chill out at their spacious rooftop bar with speakers playing music at minimal volume.
The next morning, we check-out our room and decided to explore the area around. But before that of course we need to try the local Penang food! cendol, curry laksa, “Oh Jian” and of course the popular Penang Char Kuey Teow!! The picture below of “Oh Jian”? “Ho Jian”? as we called it in Cantonese? Mandarin? Whatever it is. It is a chinese dish with oysters and eggs, if not mistaken. Update! It’s called Fried Oyster Omelette! Aha!
Walking under the scorching sun is a no-no, we decided to rent bicycle to further ease our exploration. Such a nice view if you’re a first in Penang, with all the wall painting and historic structures and buildings definitely made up the the day. Of course we are searching for those popular wall painting spots as seen in TVB series “Outbound Love”.
With such a hot weather, we rest at a hut beside while enjoying cold drinks. After the rest, we visit to Kek Lok Si temple, it took about an hour to reach, if not mistaken. At the top, we can have a full view of Penang especially the easy to spot Komtar tower, although the haze is bad there too.
As time doesn’t allow us to stay longer, we decided to head back to KL. So it was an enjoyable 2 days trip to Penang city. The XNation DJs will be back in other cities! Stay tuned.
