The genre that everyone seems to now agree should be called Electronic Dance Music is under the spotlight again. On 31st December 2012, TWELVE 13 saw Malaysia’s Trance fans counting down to the New Year under the stars with their favourite DJs at KL Tower Kuala Lumpur. TWELVE 13 showcasing the world’s renowned international dance music act joined the finest local talents in the biggest New Year’s Eve celebration in town.
TWELVE 13 BRINGING THE FINEST EXPORTS FROM ACROSS THE GLOBE, WELCOMING YOUR 2013
This event has attracted 3,000 Trance lovers, flooding KL Tower as early as 6pm. All tickets were sold out on the night of the event of which over 5% of the ticket purchase were foreign attendees. Duago International’s Managing Director and founder of TWELVE, Amin Jay said “It feels like a dream when we’ve successfully bring six top raising names in dance industry to Kuala Lumpur alongside with our local heroes. The line-up includes Andrew Rayel, MaRLo, Wezz Devall, Ruben de Ronde, DJ Eco and KhomHa. They are truly the rising stars of trance. Not to be forgotten, our local DJs for their outstanding opening set. Huge props to Leey Houdini, Chukiess, Mister Ariffin and Adham Nasri.”
However, KhomHa fans was a little disappointed knowing that he was not able to play for TWELVE 13. When asked about this Amin added, “Adverse weather conditions in the New York City area have resulted in the cancellation of KhomHa’s outbound flight to Malaysia and attempts to reroute him in time for his set have not been successful. We understand that his fans are looking forward to his set and because of that KhoMha’s agents will be looking to schedule a replacement date in the very near future. In the meantime, KhomHa sends big apologies and love to his fans in South East Asia who were looking forward to seeing him.”
The countdown moment was special to Malaysian Trance lovers when TWELVE 13 brought our local DJ hero, Leey Houdini to appear alongside with Andrew Rayel. Leey Houdini played Trimix vs. Tiesto vs. Hardwell vs. Jacob van Hage – Seven Zero 76 Convoi (TWELVE 13 Leey Houdini Mash Up). “Although it is only a mash up, we’re overwhelmed to hear something fresh from our shore. The energy Leey Houdini and Andrew Rayel brings during the countdown is amazing. The crowd goes wild. Their reaction was bazaar. One thing for sure, they’ll be more to come from Leey Houdini. He has been such a great DJ and hopefully he’ll be the one lifting Malaysia in the eye of international dance industry.” Amin Jay said proudly.
The dance music scene has infiltrated music culture all around the world; however in Malaysia this genre is still relatively new. The new generation of Malaysia has greater appreciation towards dance music and they have been growing tremendously over the years. Speaking about his hope for upcoming TWELVE events, Amin explained, “Although we can’t exclaim the number of international attendees at TWELVE 13 to be impressive, but I personally see the potential for Malaysia to be the destination for large-scale international events and at the same time increasing the tourism sector in our country. The misconception in the community that associate dance music with drug and alcohol needs to be change. Dance music regardless the sub-genre, can be enjoyed just like any other music genre. Dance music is the 21st century pop music and we hope for the upcoming TWELVE, we’ll be bigger in scale and better in music. TWELVE 13 is only the beginning.”
